Holidays to Jungle Bay Dominica
Jungle Bay Dominica sits at Mourne Acouma, just before the village of Soufrière on the south-west coast, about 20 minutes by car from Roseau and one hour 20 minutes from Douglas-Charles Airport. Its 60 eco bungalows are spread across the hillside above the Caribbean Sea, and the resort holds the highest level of Dominica's Nature Island Standards of Excellence certification. It suits you if hiking, yoga and time in nature matter more than a beach day.
Each of the 60 bungalows is hand-finished by local artisans, with bamboo furnishings, a private patio, air conditioning and fans, free Wi-Fi and a mosquito net over every bed. The website lists seven layouts: bungalow rooms with one king or two twin beds, bungalow suites for up to three, and a Garden View Family Suite for up to four. Views are garden or partial ocean, and the website says no room is fully ocean view or oceanfront.
Guided hikes lead to Middleham Falls, Trafalgar Falls and the Boiling Lake Trail, while at sea you can snorkel Champagne Reef, kayak Soufrière Bay, try freediving or go whale watching. A dive shop about five minutes away has nearly 20 sites within 15 boat minutes. In the gardens, a herbal tea workshop, bird watching and a guided tour add a slower pace to the day.
Two pools sit in the grounds: an infinity pool with a hot tub, and a garden pool. The Bamboo Spa is open daily from 10:00 to 20:00, with a signature Jungle Bay massage, couples massages, aromatherapy and Swedish massage. There are four yoga and movement studios and a gym. Classes last 60 minutes and run five to seven days a week in Hatha, Vinyasa, Restorative and Yin styles.
Calabash Restaurant and Bar is the resort's meeting point, a short walk from the bungalows and open to the air with a sea view. The menu rotates daily around organic local ingredients, from vegan and vegetarian plates to fish, seafood and chicken. Breakfast runs from 07:00 to 10:00, lunch from 12:00 to 14:30 and dinner from 18:00 to 21:00, with island casual dress. The Adventure Wellness Package covers all meals and fresh juices.
The resort has no beach of its own, so tours reach Scotts Head, about eight minutes by car, and Champagne Beach, about 15 minutes away, where the sand is mostly stone or natural black. Roseau is 10 km from the resort, around 20 minutes by car. Dominica is visited all year: the drier season runs from December to May, rain is heavier from August to October, and temperatures average 27 to 30 degrees Celsius.
