Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape sits in the highlands north of Ubud, in Payangan, Gianyar, among tropical forest with views of Bali's seven peaks. It is adults only, for travellers aged 18 and above, with just 16 open-air private bales. It suits you if privacy and a slower pace matter most. No star rating is published. Breakfast is listed in the room details, but no wider board basis is stated, so check your rate.
There are 16 private bales, with five types published: Seven Peaks Pool Bale, Above the Waterfall Pool Bale, Buahan Valley Pool Bale, River Valley Pool Bale and Rainforest Pool Bale. Each sleeps two in a king bed and measures 160 sqm, with views of mountains, valley, rice terraces or river front. All five list a private pool, bathtub, fire pit, complimentary Wi-Fi and tea and coffee making facilities. A minibar appears on two.
Daily wellbeing runs from yoga and meditation to sound healing and Moon Yoga, and Soul Freedom Journey is a purification ritual at the resort's own waterfall. You can walk the rice fields at twilight on the Sandikala Walk, cook over an open flame at Dukuh Asri, or join guided walks, cycling and birdwatching. Water sports and evening entertainment are not published, and there is no kids club, as the resort is adults only.
Toja Spa, named after the Indonesian word for water, is an open-air spa for in-house travellers only, so book before you arrive. Signature treatments include Raindrop Therapy, Sejoli for couples and Buahan Bliss, a scrub, massage and herbal wrap. Yoga and meditation are complimentary. The outdoor pool looks over the jungle and mountains, and the facilities page also lists an infinity pool. Every published bale has a private pool. A gym, sauna and steam room are not published.
There are two places to eat and drink. Open Kitchen is the signature restaurant, with plant-forward menus and regional specialities based on seasonal local produce. The Botanist Bar serves handcrafted cocktails made with herbs, flowers and spices, plus locally roasted coffee. Both open daily from 11:00 to 23:00. Destination dining includes Jungle Affair, a candlelit private pavilion dinner, and Timbungan Lunch. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free needs can be met with notice. Room service is not published.
Ubud Centre is 25 km away, about 45 minutes by road, though the FAQ says about 40 minutes. Tegalalang Rice Terraces are 30 km, around 50 minutes. Ngurah Rai International Airport is listed at 48 km on the location page but 90 km in the FAQ, both about two hours, so confirm before you book. Private transfers can be arranged. The dry season runs from April to October, and the green season from November to March.
