Nirjhara, Sanskrit for waterfall, is a luxury eco-resort in Tabanan, the region of Bali that is home to Tanah Lot temple. It overlooks rice fields and is surrounded by a river and cascades, so you wake to jungle and water rather than crowds. The hotel describes itself as boutique and family-owned, and its villas suit couples as well as small families or groups of friends.
The website lists seven suite and villa types but does not publish a room total. The one-bedroom Canopy Suite has a rooftop deck and rice field views, while the River Pavilion has a private deck. Plunge pools come with the River Pool Pavilion and infinity pools with the Jungle Pool Pavilion. For more space, two-bedroom villas suit small families or friends, and The Residence spreads over two levels with a 14 m infinity pool.
Yoga and meditation classes run in the Yoga Shala, and complimentary mountain bikes let you explore the surrounding villages. Cooking and mixology classes, weekly movie nights in the Cinema and a Library with books and board games fill quieter hours. In the nearby village of Kedungu you can take surfing lessons, and horse riding follows rice paddies and a black-sand beach. The Cinema suits families, and its screening room can be privatised.
The 25 m saltwater pool has jungle views and its own pool bar, and many villas add a private pool of their own, from a plunge pool to infinity pools. The spa is called The Retreat and is built around a reflection pool, with Balinese therapies including Ancient Reiki Blessings, Sacred Sleep Blessings, massages and body scrubs. A Finnish sauna, a Yoga Shala and a fully-equipped fitness centre complete the wellbeing offer.
Ambu is the resort restaurant, serving Bali inspired island cuisine with farm to table ingredients from the region or from Nirjhara's own vegetable garden, and it caters for vegan, gluten-free and allergy-friendly diets. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served, with the waterfall and forest as a backdrop. Ambu also has a bar with a wine cellar, and the Pool Bar offers cocktails, juices, salads and pizzas by the pool.
Kedungu beach is a stone's throw from the property, and Canggu's Echo Beach is within 20 minutes. Canggu itself has beach bars, health cafes and boutique stores, while Tanah Lot temple provides a backdrop for sunset. Further out, the 11th-century Batukaru Temple sits in the hills of Tabanan, and Ubud lies further afield. The website gives no airport distance or climate details.
