Walk out to a private beach fronting a boutique resort at Mammee Bay.
Sandals Dunn's River sits on a private beach at Mammee Bay near Ocho Rios, a boutique feeling resort built around a chain of pools that flows like the waterfall it is named after. It is adults only and designed for couples, and it is all inclusive, so meals, premium spirits, land and water sports and the stocked minibar in your room are covered. The resort reopened in 2023 after an extensive renovation.
Fourteen room categories run across three levels, Sandals Luxury, Club Sandals and Butler Elite. Views take in beachfront, oceanfront, oceanview, pool and tropical garden. Room types include Jamaica's first SkyPool Suites, where the balcony carries an elevated infinity pool and a soaking tub for two, along with Coyaba Sky Rondoval Villas, Swim-up Suites, Private Pool Suites, Penthouse Suites and Villa Suites. A stocked bar comes as standard.
Water sports take in kayaks, waterskiing, tubing, snorkelling, sailboats, Hobie Cats, paddleboarding, glass bottom boats, wakeboarding and kneeboarding, with equipment and instruction provided. Scuba diving through the PADI programme reaches the reefs, walls and wrecks these waters are known for. On land there is pickleball, table tennis, shuffleboard, bocce, beach volleyball, lawn chess, croquet and cricket. Evenings bring a piano bar, live bands, karaoke and beach parties.
Two pools and two whirlpools run through the grounds, with a swim up bar, a poolside bar, sun loungers and umbrellas alongside. Red Lane Spa handles the treatments, from massage and facials to the salon, in treatment rooms and secluded garden settings. The fitness centre is fitted with TechnoGym equipment and looks straight out to sea, and group classes and aqua fit sessions run alongside cardio and weight training.
Twelve restaurants and nine bars sit across the resort. Cascata serves handmade Italian, Hanami puts out sushi, Banyu covers Pan Asian and Jerk Shack grills Jamaican jerk straight off the fire with a cold Red Stripe alongside. Dunn's Rum Club pours cocktails built on Appleton rum and coconut, with bar snacks, a pool table and Jamaican rules dominoes. Robert Mondavi Twin Oaks wines are poured throughout.
Green fees at the eighteen hole Upton Estate Golf and Country Club are covered, with return shuttles, and Island Routes arranges excursions across Jamaica with guides who live in the region. Ian Fleming International Airport is a thirty minute drive away, while Sangster International at Montego Bay and Norman Manley at Kingston are both around ninety minutes. Direct flights from Miami land twenty minutes from the resort.
