Sandals South Coast sits at Whitehouse on Jamaica's south coast, on a five star beachfront estate wrapped by a 500 acre protected nature reserve. It is adults only and all inclusive, so meals, premium spirits, land and water sports and the stocked bar in your room are all covered. This is Jamaica's only resort where every room is both beachfront and oceanview, and the two mile stretch of white sand in front of it sets an unhurried pace.
Twenty four room categories run across three levels, Sandals Luxury, Club Sandals and Butler Elite. Views take in beachfront, oceanfront, oceanview, pool and tropical garden. Room types include Over the Water Bungalows built out above the sea, Rondoval Villas, which are circular and set into the landscape with either a private plunge pool or a garden pool sanctuary, plus Swim-up Suites, Walkout Suites and Penthouse Suites. Balconies or patios and a stocked bar come as standard.
Water sports take in kayaks, waterskiing, windsurfing, snorkelling, sailboats, tubing, paddleboarding, glass bottom boats, wakeboarding and kneeboarding, with equipment and instruction provided. Scuba diving through the PADI programme reaches the reefs, walls and wrecks these waters are known for. On land there is day and night tennis, pickleball, squash, table tennis, shuffleboard, lawn chess, croquet, basketball, beach volleyball, bocce and pool tables. Entertainment and live shows run day and night.
Four pools and four whirlpools are spread across the grounds, including one adults only pool, a poolside bar and a swim up bar, with sun loungers, terraces and umbrellas throughout. Red Lane Spa handles the treatments, from couples and full body massage to facials, in treatment rooms and secluded garden settings. The fitness centre runs group classes alongside cardio and weight training on Life Fitness equipment, and there is a sauna.
Ten restaurants and seven bars sit along the shore. Butch's Island Chophouse serves dry aged steaks and seafood, Jasmine's covers Pan Asian, Strand is a beachside grill built around American comfort cooking, Neptune's does Mediterranean, and Blum pours Blue Mountain coffee with island spiced pastries from early morning. Sushi on the Sand sits on the beach itself. Six Robert Mondavi Twin Oaks wines are poured throughout, and a Culinary Concierge Desk handles reservations and dietary requirements.
The resort fronts two miles of white sand and is bordered by a 500 acre wilderness preserve, which shapes the quiet, wide open feel of the place. Island Routes arranges excursions across Jamaica with guides who live in the region, ranging from the exhilarating to the sedate. Sangster International Airport at Montego Bay is the arrival point, with an airport lounge on arrival and return transfers covered.
