SPA RETREAT
CORAL REEFS
FAMILY FUN
Meeru Island Resort and Spa sits on Meerufenfushi in North Male Atoll, a 60-minute speedboat ride from Velana International Airport. The island measures 1,200 metres by 350 metres, and much of it is untouched, with coconut palms, thick vegetation and long stretches of white sand. You are surrounded by a turquoise lagoon and coral reefs teeming with marine life, and the resort is the only one on the island, with more than 40 years of Maldivian hospitality behind it.
The 282 rooms are spread across Garden Rooms, Beach Villas, Jacuzzi Beach Villas, Water Front Villas, Jacuzzi Water Villas, Beach Pool Villas and Two Bedroom Villas, with family villas and Meeru Ocean Villas also listed on the resort site. Beach Villas have a king size bed, air conditioning, a ceiling fan, a minibar, a safe, tea and coffee facilities, a private porch and a rainshower, plus beach sun loungers.
Two Duniye Spa locations, one over the lagoon, offer massage, facials and Himalayan singing bowl sessions. You can dive, snorkel over the coral nursery, canoe, windsurf or take a sunset cruise. Evening entertainment, a game room, billiards, fishing and a nightclub fill the hours after dark, and a speedboat transfer brings you back to the airport when the stay ends.
Facilities run across the whole island. You can swim in the infinity pool, the adult pool or the plunge pool, keep fit in the gym or join a yoga class, and play badminton, tennis, table tennis or mini golf. A kids club and kids pool are on site, babysitting is available, and you can rent bicycles to get around. Wifi, laundry, a gift shop and a concierge cover the practical side.
Dining is all inclusive and spread across the island. The Reef serves seafood and grills on the beach, Asian Wok sits over the water with teppanyaki shows, and Vilu offers Mediterranean cooking at dinner beside the adults-only infinity pool. A-Mare serves Italian dishes and pizzas, while the buffet restaurant hosts theme nights, including a Maldivian evening on Fridays and sparkling wine at Sunday breakfast. Five bars include sunset drinks at Asian Wok Bar.
Romantic dinners can be arranged on the beach, with the sound of waves beside you, and the bridal suite suits honeymooners. In-villa dining is available for a special celebration or a quiet meal inside, and the team creates exotic dining experiences on request. The resort also lists a festive activities programme and a Romance experience, so an anniversary or birthday can sit alongside your days of diving, spa time and island dining.
