PRIVATE ISLANDS
WELLNESS RETREAT
FAMILY VILLAS
Six Senses Kanuhura sits in the Lhaviyani Atoll and spreads across three private islands, with the main island home to one of the largest beaches in the Maldives. The resort has 85 villas, from beach and family villas to overwater pool villas, and a house reef in the lagoon sits at your feet. Board basis is not published on the resort site, so check the rate you book. The mood is relaxed, with room for both family time and quiet seclusion, and a walk around the island is not to be missed.
The 85 villas range from one to three bedrooms, so they suit couples, families and larger groups. Choose from Beach Villas, Beach Retreats and Water Villas, with pool versions across most categories. Beach Villas offer an outdoor deck, sun loungers, a flat screen television, a minibar, wifi, tea and coffee facilities and air conditioning. Family Water Villas, Family Beach Retreats and villas with up to three bedrooms suit larger parties.
Days can be active or slow. You can dive, snorkel, sail and paddle with the watersports team, play on two open-air tennis courts or the squash court, or join cooking classes and Cinema Under the Stars. Children have a complimentary club, teens have the Island Hideout and a family game room, and babysitting is available. Evenings suit a drink at Sunset Point.
Two pools are the centrepiece here: a 472 sq.m. free-form pool and a 393 sq.m. infinity pool at The Point. Six Senses Spa has eight treatment rooms, including a couple's suite and a VIP suite, plus male and female heat and water facilities, a nail bar and a biohacking recovery lounge. You can also use the gym, the yoga studio or the beachfront yoga pavilion.
Food is built around fresh, local ingredients, many from the Organic Garden. The Market serves breakfast with your feet in the sand and buffet dinners, while Bottega offers Italian cooking and sourdough pizzas. Sip & Sand mixes charcoal grills with Japanese evenings, and The Point pairs Spanish tapas with a wine bar. Drift is a lunch spot on Jehunuhura, a 7-minute boat ride away.
You travel to the resort by a 40-minute seaplane ride from Velana International Airport, with a lounge to wait in. Castaway days on Masleggihuraa and Jehunuhura are a short boat ride away, Turtle Airport, a renowned turtle resting spot for snorkelling, is 15 minutes away, and Fushifaru Thila is 10 minutes by speedboat. High season runs from November to April, while reef life is present all year.
