SPA SANCTUARY
The Oberoi, Mauritius is a five star resort on Baie aux Tortues, better known as Turtle Bay, a protected marine park on the north west coast of the island. You arrive at 20 acres of sub-tropical gardens and 600 metres of beachfront shaped into three crescents of white sand. Port Louis lies 20 kilometres away, and the small town of Grand Baie is close by. The resort holds Two Michelin Keys for 2026.
The resort offers ten accommodation types, from a Luxury Pavilion with a thatched bedroom and private terrace to the Three Bedroom Royal Ocean View Villa, with a master bedroom and two further bedrooms. Seven of the eight villa types have a private pool, temperature controlled in cooler months, plus a sunken marble bath and a thatched dining pavilion. Handcrafted furniture, air conditioning, wireless internet and Netflix come with every room, with views from ocean to garden.
Touching Senses is a weekly programme of mindfulness and cultural activities, among them hatha yoga, t'ai chi, star gazing, cooking classes, henna painting and rum tasting. A PADI dive centre works with the resort on sea dives, night dives and underwater photography. Evenings bring live piano at The Bar, and couples can arrange a candlelit dinner on the beach or a bath in their sunken marble tub, set with candles and Champagne.
Two outdoor pools have private access and ocean views. The pool at On the Rocks measures 25 metres and is open to everyone, while the 20 metre Turtle Bay pool is reserved for adults. The Oberoi Spa has open air treatment rooms for couples, with African-inspired therapies, signature Oberoi therapies, sensory experiences and Indian rituals, open from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm. The air conditioned fitness centre has cardiovascular and weights machines, garden views and hours from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Five venues cover the day. The Restaurant serves Creole, International and Indian cuisine in a thatched room or al fresco, beside a reflection pool lit by torches at night. The Gunpowder Room, an 18th century French colonial space of stone walls and wine barrels, serves Mauritian Creole dinners on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Herb Trail hosts a communal four course menu cooked in an underground fire pit on Saturday and Sunday nights. On the Rocks grills seafood at tables on volcanic rocks, while The Bar adds cocktails, local rums and live piano each evening.
Le Caudan Waterfront in Port Louis combines shops, restaurants, a casino and the Blue Penny Museum, while Sunset Boulevard in Grand Baie has boutiques along Royal Road. La Vanille Nature Park, Eureka House and glass bottom boat rides around Blue Bay Marine Park lie further afield, and the resort can arrange transport for your trip. The climate is tropical all year, with summer from October to May reaching highs near 34 degrees Celsius and cooler winter days around 26 degrees.
