JEN Singapore Tanglin by Shangri-La

JEN Singapore Tanglin by Shangri-La is a four-star hotel at 1A Cuscaden Road, a few minutes from Orchard Road. It links directly to Tanglin Mall and stands beside Orchard Boulevard MRT, so the city opens up the moment you step out. The mood is bright and modern rather than formal, which suits short city stays, family trips and working visits equally well. Check-in is from 15:00, and check-out is at 12:00. Breakfast at J65 is included with Club Rooms and Suites.

Nine room types range from 25-square-metre Superior, Deluxe, and Club Rooms to a Premier Suite of about 75 square metres. Almost every room has a bay-window sofa framing city or pool views, king or twin beds dressed in Frette sheets, satellite and cable television, and 24-hour room service. The Trio Room takes three single beds, and connecting pairs of Superior or Deluxe rooms give families 50 square metres. Club Rooms and Suites add Club JEN @ 17 on Level 17, with private check-in, afternoon tea and evening cocktails.

Days here tend to be self-directed. Bicycle rental puts Singapore Botanic Gardens and the streets around Tanglin within easy reach, and the 24-hour gym supports any fitness routine you keep. Club JEN @ 17 runs afternoon tea from 2pm to 4pm and evening cocktails from 6pm to 8pm for Club Room and Suite bookings, and JEN Society adds a rolling programme of curated events.

An outdoor pool anchors the leisure space, and a sauna and Jacuzzi sit alongside it for slower afternoons. The gym stays open 24 hours so that you can work out around a late arrival or an early meeting. Many rooms look out over the water, which makes an early swim an easy habit to fall into on a short stay.

Three places to eat and drink are inside the building. J65 on Level 1 is the main one: a buffet built around chilled, jet-fresh seafood and local home-style cooking prepared in front of you in the open kitchen, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner sittings daily. JEN's Kitchen On-the-Go handles takeaway bites and brews for busy mornings, and Rumpoles Bar keeps a cosy room for beers, wines and classic cocktails. Room service runs around the clock, and delivery menus cover Western, Chinese, Malay and Indian cooking.

Tanglin Mall is 90 metres away and reached without stepping outside, and Orchard Boulevard MRT is 195 metres on. Singapore Botanic Gardens lies 1.39 kilometres away, Dempsey Hill 1.58 kilometres, and the bars of Emerald Hill 1.72 kilometres. Orchard Central and The Centrepoint sit under two kilometres for shopping, while Clarke Quay is 3.06 kilometres and Marina Bay 5.08 kilometres. Chinatown and Bugis are within the same easy reach by train.
