Holidays to Holland Beach House Hotel
Holland House Beach Hotel stands on Great Bay in the middle of Philipsburg, the historic capital of Sint Maarten, and opens onto a white sand beach that the hotel describes as 1000 yards long. Its website calls it one of the first hotels built on the island. The star rating and board basis are not published. The location suits you if you prefer to step from the sand to the shops and restaurants of town.
The website lists six rooms and suites: City View, Beach View, Junior Suite, Executive City View, Executive Beach View and Royal Suite. The room count is not published. Rooms have central air conditioning, an espresso machine and a safe, and the City View and Beach View rooms have a private balcony. The Junior Suite suits two adults with two children, while the Executive rooms and Royal Suite are on the fourth floor, with the Royal Suite adding a large terrace and an ocean view.
From the hotel you can walk the Philipsburg boardwalk to duty free stores, two casinos and bars, or take a catamaran tour to the reefs at Prickly Pear for snorkelling. The hotel can arrange day trips to St Barths, Anguilla, Saba and Statia, a zip line at the Loterie farm, or a sail on an original twelve metre Stars and Stripes boat. Tennis is arranged through the front desk, and an 18 hole public golf course lies at Mullet Bay.
The hotel's website describes no swimming pool, spa or gym, so your time outdoors centres on the beach. Beach chairs and a beach towel service come with your room, and beach attendants can bring lunch and cold drinks to the sand. Wi-Fi reaches the rooms, and Le Dutch boutique and a business and conference room are also on site.
The Ocean Lounge is the hotel's restaurant, lounge and bar, serving eclectic cooking made with fresh ingredients in front of the Caribbean Sea. Breakfast runs from 07:00 to 10:00, lunch from 12:00 to 15:00 and dinner from 18:00 to 22:00, with finger foods through the day. Only dinner can be reserved, through OpenTable. The wine cellar has won Wine Spectator awards, and a beach bar serves Whispering Angel rosé.
Philipsburg's shops, restaurants and casinos are steps away along the boardwalk. Grand Case, with its gourmet restaurants, is about 15 minutes away, as is Orient Beach. Pinel Island offers small restaurants and bars, and the Sunset Bar at Maho lets you watch jets land close to the runway. Princess Juliana International Airport is about 20 minutes away by taxi, and check-in is from 15:00.
