Holidays to Hôtel Esmeralda Resort, Orient Bay

Hôtel Esmeralda Resort is a four star hotel on Orient Bay in Saint Martin, opened in 1991 and set in three hectares of tropical garden. The address is 44 Parc de la Baie Orientale, and Orient Bay Beach is reached directly from the hotel. Breakfast is the one meal arrangement the hotel confirms, so you can plan lunch and most evenings around the beach and the village, with reception and a concierge available around the clock.

There are 51 rooms and suites, arranged across 14 villas of three or four ground floor bedrooms and suites, each with a shaded terrace. Superior and Deluxe Rooms look over the garden or the pool, while the recently renovated Ocean View Rooms face the Caribbean Sea. Superior Suites add a four-poster bed, Deluxe Suites have a separate living room, and the renovated Presidential Suite has ocean views and a walk-in shower. Kitchenettes or full kitchens come with every category, and rooms can be rented singly or combined.

Orient Bay Beach offers kitesurfing, jet skiing, parasailing, windsurfing, Hobie Cat, kayak and paddle rental, as well as catamaran excursions. The activity desk can point you towards horse riding, golf, scuba diving, deep sea fishing, a zipline and quad tours across the island. Reception also books excursions to Saint Barthélemy, Anguilla and Saba, and a shuttle boat runs to Pinel Island.

The hotel has 14 semi-private swimming pools, each shared only by the people staying in the same villa, with pool loungers and beach towels provided. There is no spa, gym or kids club listed, but in-room massages can be booked through reception, and childcare, baby cots and children's beds are available. A satellite TV, free parking, fibre Wi-Fi and laundry service are also part of the stay.

The Astrolabe Restaurant is the hotel's one dining venue, set beside the swimming pool. Chef Patrick Guillerm cooks inventive, modern French cuisine that is open to the world. Breakfast runs from 07:30 to 10:30 as a continental buffet or à la carte, and can be brought to your room on request. Dinner is served every day except Wednesday, with theme evenings and music twice a week, including lobster Fridays. Reservations are strongly recommended. The hotel lists no bar.

Orient Bay Village and its Place du Village, with restaurants and shops, is about a ten minute walk away, and the privilege card you receive on arrival lets you settle restaurant bills at the hotel before you leave. Four beach restaurants, KKO, Bikini, Wai Plage and Kontiki, offer loungers and umbrellas, and Coco Beach sits directly in front of the hotel. Grand Case, known as the gastronomic capital, is about ten minutes by car. The hotel publishes no airport distance.
